What is a PADI Certification?

There are many certifications or diving levels, the first one is Open Water Diver Certification. Normally people know Open Water Diver Certification as "PADI" as well as they reference acetylsalicylic acid as "aspirin".

There are some others. Some are regionally based like FEDAS; some are specialized companies, for example: SSI, NAUI, CEMAS, IAHD.

Do I need a Diving insurance?

In Spain it is mandatory to have a diving insurance. I am sorry but your medical insurance like Asisa, Adeslas or Sanitas are not valid. Dive insurance is a specific insurance. You can get a daily one or anual insurance.

You will see all the famous seafood of the Rías Baixas de Galicia, but this time in its natural hábitat.

Isnt the water too cold?

The minimum temperature in which we have dived was 14º. That's cold, but since we use semi-dry, wet 7mm or dry suits, you can not tell the difference. In Buceo Wayuu we have Aqualung dry suits available to clients.

Dizziness on the boat?

If you usually get dizzy on the boat, you might take some type of medication prescribed by your doctor for dizziness. Remind your doctor that you are going to dive , so he/she can be aware that medication can not affect you during your diving practice.

What is a hyperbaric chamber?

It is a huge capsule that compresses with air imitating the pressure of the depths. It is usually used for many things as bone regeneration treatments, but in our case, Diving practices, is used in case of ascending to the surface very fast.

Is it hard to learn to dive?

Much easier than riding a bicycle. People regualry learn to dive in only 5 days. It is true that the more you dive, the better you do it. With practice, you will improve your position, buoyancy and air consumption.

Can I dive with contact lenses?

Yes, just let your instructor know so he is aware and explains to you how to do certain exercises to not lose your contact lenses. In addition, there are graduated diving masks. Many underwater photographers use crystals in their bifocal masks.

What does compasate your ears mean?

When we start diving, as we submerge, we will feel pressure in our ears. Compensating is the way in which we equalize the pressure in the ears to avoid having a barotrauma.

Is it hard to compensate the ears?

Is is super easy. The pressure of the ears is "compensated" by covering the nose and trying to expel the air gently. We should never compensate apply strength like when we blow our nose, this would break the eardrum. This exercise is called Maneuver of Valsalva.

From what age can I dive?

PADI allows you to dive from an early age. In Spain, depending on the Autonomous Community you can dive with 12 years as is the case of Catalonia. In Galicia, the minimum age is 16 years and always authorized by your parents or guardian.

Are there anymedical restrictions to start diving?

Yes there are medical restrictions. Before starting your course you need to go to a doctor to do a medical checkup. Yoru doctor must fill an Official Medical Certificate (sold in the Pharmacy) staying that you are ok to dive.

Do I need to know how to swim?

To get your Open Water Diver certification you must know how to swim. You don´t need to be Michael Phelps. It is enought if you swim like Eric Moousambani (Olympic Swimmer from Equatorial Guinea).

Can I fly before diving?

Yes, you can fly before diving. The nearest airports to Sanxenxo are Vigo and Santiago de Compostela. Some people also come from the Oporto airport. You do not have to wait to dive.

Can I fly after diving?

No, although not forever. If you only do one dive, waiting 12 hours is enough. If you do more than one followed dive, you must wait at least 18 hours. This rule is very important, we do not want you to end up in the hospital.

¿Quién me acompaña en las inmersiones?

Para los clientes que ya están certificados, en Buceo Wayuu lo organizamos de tal manera que máximo tendremos 6 clientes por Instructor o Divemaster. Además separamos los grupos por niveles. No te preocupes, entendemos que unos tienen más experiencia que otros y por eso organizamos las inmersiones para distintos niveles.

If your doctor allows you , then you can dive. We will take the equipment to the boat and we will help you put it on.

Buceos profundos

Regularmente hacemos inmersiones profundas sin descompresión, es decir, sin pasar los límites que nos marcan las tablas de buceo para no tener que hacer paradas de descompresión. Siempre colgamos un equipo de buceo auxiliar en un cabo a 6 metros, además de una luz con destellos. Procuraremos que todos los integrantes del buceo lleven una luz estroboscópica colgando de su botella. Además tenemos ordenadores de buceo para dejarte, en Buceo Wayuu la seguridad es muy importante.

¿Puede una persona con discapacidad bucear?

Si, siempre que su médico lo autorice. Dependiendo del nivel de discapacidad irá acompañado por una o varias personas de apoyo. PADI ofrece una especialidad de buceo para los acompañantes de una persona con discapacidad. Además disponemos de scooters para darle plena libertad de movimientos en su inmersión.

¿Cómo hago el examen de PADI?

El examen es tipo test y se responde en una hora aproximadamente. No encontrarás ninguna pregunta que no te suene de nada ya que previo a hacer el curso tienes que ver un vídeo de 4 horas y media que te explica todo, además tienes que leer un manual y responder unos repasos de conocimientos. ¿Sabes que en Buceo Wayuu si respondes al 100% de las preguntas bien, te regalamos la primera inmersión después de tu curso? No es fácil responder el 100% bien, para que te hagas una idea en durante agosto de 2018 sólo 4 de nuestros alumnos respondieron el 100% de las preguntas bien.

¿Tengo que comprarme equipo de buceo?

No hace falta, en Buceo Wayuu durante tu información está incluido el alquiler de todo el equipo que necesites. Además, todo el material está como nuevo. Lo revisamos continuamente y sólo tenemos productos de primera calidad como Apeks, Poseidón y Aqualung.

Plan de seguridad

Disponemos un plan de seguridad de uso público, si quieres leerlo te lo dejamos. En el Plan recopilamos todos los posibles casos de emergencia que surjan, desde resbalarse en la tienda a un traslado en helicóptero. Todos los años lo revisamos y se lo entregamos a la Capitanía Marítima.

Embarcación en lista 6ª

Los clientes no suelen fijarse en estas cosas, pero cuando ocurren los accidentes después vienen los problemas. Una empresa de buceo debe tener un barco acreditado para transportar clientes al punto de buceo. Las embarcaciones en lista 7ª son las que se usan a nivel particular para uso recreativo. Algunos centros de buceo, para evitarse miles de papeles y obligaciones fiscales, trabajan bajo la figura de Club de Buceo. Aún así exige tu factura.

Todas las empresas que presten un servicio de buceo están en la obligación de darte tu factura o ticket con su IVA desglosado. En el mundo del buceo siempre ha existido la picaresca. Algunos como Buceo Wayuu S.L.U. entregamos la factura a los clientes, tanto si la quieren como si no.

Does the neoprene suit get wet inside?

Yes. a thin layer of water will come through the neoprene suit. This layer of water will be heated up by your body heat. The thicker the suit, the warmer it will be. There are other types os Diving suit like the dry suit.

It is a suit that seals very well on the cuffs and neck. It also has a different kind of zipper that doesn´t allow water to enter.

How to get to Sanxenxo

By car, there is a Parking Puerto Deportivo Juan Carlos I facilities. If you want we can go and find your diving equipment at the hotel. By Plane. The nearest airports are Vigo at 61 Kilometers (50 minutes by car) and Santiago de Compostela Airport at 84 Kilometers (1 hour by car).

Where do we dive?

Buceo Wayuu is located in Sanxenxo. We dive in different dive spots within the Ría de Pontevedra, Ons and Sálvora Islands, Ría de Aldán and even in the Ría de Arousa and Islas Cíes.

Recuperación de artes de pesca abandonadas

Buscando la conservación del lecho marino, Buceo Wayuu dentro de las prácticas de buceo sostenible realiza la recogida de redes abandonadas. Unas veces porque nos las encontramos buceando y otras porque los marineros de la zona nos piden ayuda para sacarlas de forma gratuita.
